My name is Jose Luis Guerra and I co-created Ron LeGrand’s® Quick Turn Real Estate Game™. I hope to meet everyone that owns one of our games, but in case I don’t have the good fortune of getting to meet you, I would like to share with you a little bit about myself and how I came to co-create this game-based training system.
My family immigrated to the United States from Mexico when I was 5 with little more than the clothes on our backs. We grew up in Chicago, a far cry from the little town I was born in. While I had a great childhood, I remember my father working countless hours to make a better life for my brothers and me. My parents wanted me to get a great education so that I could succeed. I remember even as a child making promises to my parents and other family members that I was going to “Make it big and take care of them.”
So I excelled at school and starting picking up odd jobs as a young teenager. Eventually we moved to Texas and I graduated from high school and was accepted into The University of Texas at Austin. While in college, I ran a successful house painting business. This gave me my first taste of owning my very own business. I quickly figured out how inexpensively I could paint houses while people were willing to pay me top dollar to not have to do it themselves. So now I knew I definitely wanted to own a business, but I didn’t know what kind of business I wanted to get into after I graduated.
From a career stand point, the message I was getting from school was to graduate, get a job, and I didn’t know where to go for entrepreneurship advice. So I graduated and got a job…What an Opportunity-Really! I had access to high speed internet 40 hours a week to find out what I wanted to do with my life!
That’s how I stumbled upon creative real estate investing. I was blown away by the amounts of money people were making in real estate. So, not knowing what to do next I got my real estate license and began to sell houses to clients hoping to figure out how to do killer real estate deals. While I was making good money as an agent, I wasn’t making the kind of money I had read about in those online creative real estate forums. Fortunately, I heard about Ron LeGrand and decided to attend his Pretty House and Ugly House Boot Camps (now known as Quick Turn Real Estate School).
It was at this Pretty House Boot Camp that I met Silas Colman, who would go on to co-create the game with me. We began to coach each other since we were both learning Ron’s methods at about the same time. Sure, I strayed from Ron’s methods a few times and experienced some hard knocks, but I learned my lesson and now I stick to Ron’s Quick Turn methods religiously. As Silas and I did more and more deals we sought to share our discovery of quick turn real estate with our friends and family and thought that something as non-threatening as a board game might be the best way to do it. There was only one problem…a quick turn real estate game that trained you how to buy and sell houses like Ron LeGrand teaches didn’t exist!
So we started throwing around the idea of creating it ourselves. We quickly came to the conclusion that we could make it happen despite the fact that we didn’t know a thing about creating an educational board game, but we didn’t know how Ron would feel about it. Flash forward to Ron’s Massive Income Strategies event in December 2006. One of the students at the event asked Ron when he was going to come out with his own game teaching his methods? Ron looked at the class and answered, “ I don’t know, when one of you brings it to me.” We had our answer! I looked at Silas and we both knew we had to do it ourselves.
We then proceeded to invest around 1,000 hours and a bunch of money to get a working proto type ready to show Ron, without him knowing about it! Needless to say he loved it and gave us his full endorsement and here we are. We hope you enjoy it and learn from it.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about myself and the process of creating this game. Please let us know how Ron LeGrand’s® Quick Turn Real Estate Game™ is working out for you, your family, and friends.
